When you walk around Kuta Beach, you will probably see a lot of longboards.
Why do we use longboards?
Because most of our customers are surfing beginners.
Today I would like to explain why longboard is good beginners.
A longboard is a great choice for surfing beginners for several reasons:
(OpenAI, 2024)
1. Stability
Longboards are wider and longer than shortboards, which provides more stability when paddling and riding the wave. This makes it easier for beginners to maintain balance and stay on the board.
2. Easier Paddling
The extra length and surface area of a longboard make paddling much easier and more efficient. Beginners can catch waves more easily because the board floats better and glides smoothly on the water.
3. Slow Learning Curve
Longboards tend to allow for a more gradual and forgiving learning curve. Since they are easier to balance on and paddle, beginners can focus on learning basic techniques, like positioning, timing, and wave selection, without being overwhelmed by the more challenging aspects of shortboarding.
4. Catching Waves Early
Longboards catch waves at a slower speed, which means they are great for smaller, mellow waves—common conditions for beginners. They allow surfers to catch waves earlier (even before the peak), giving them more time to practice maneuvering and improving their timing.
5. More Rideable Time
Longboards are great for cruising, allowing beginners to practice staying on the board and riding longer distances along the wave. This gives new surfers more time to refine their skills before transitioning to more advanced maneuvers or smaller boards.
6. Forgiving
Longboards are more forgiving when it comes to wiping out or losing balance. The size of the board makes it less likely to tip or flip suddenly, reducing the chance of injury and helping beginners build confidence.
7. Less Need for Speed
Unlike shortboards, which require more speed to generate power and perform tricks, longboards are easier to control at slower speeds, which is important for beginners who are still learning how to handle the wave.
In short, longboards offer beginners a smooth and manageable introduction to surfing, helping them build the skills and confidence needed to progress to shorter boards later on.
Shortboards are also available for intermediate and above. The instructor will suggest what kind of surfboard to use depending on your skill level.
