Orange Surf School Bali is located in Kuta Beach.
Wouldn’t it be great to discover a new hobby while traveling to Bali?
You may think “Kuta beach is crowded and noisy”. In fact, that may be true.
However, please try surfing once. New experiences will refresh your mind.
Today I would like to explain why Kuta Beach in Bali is considered a great spot for beginner surfers.

1. Gentle Waves
- Kuta Beach has relatively gentle, forgiving waves compared to some of the more challenging surf spots in Bali. The beach typically offers small to medium-sized waves, which are perfect for beginners to practice their paddling, popping up on the board, and riding whitewater waves (the broken waves near shore).
2. Consistent Surf
- The beach has a consistent swell, which means that there are usually good conditions for surfing throughout the day, giving beginners plenty of opportunities to get on the water and improve their skills.
3. Long Beach with Easy Access
- Kuta Beach has a long shoreline, which means there is more space to spread out and find a good spot to surf without the waves getting crowded. It’s also easily accessible from the nearby streets, so you can get to the beach and the surf with minimal hassle.
4. Surf Schools and Rentals
- Kuta is home to many surf schools and rental shops. Beginners can take lessons with experienced instructors who know how to help newcomers get comfortable in the water. These schools often provide boards suited to beginners, such as soft-top longboards, which are more stable and easier to ride.
5. Shallow Waters and Sandy Bottoms
- The water around Kuta Beach is relatively shallow, and the sandy bottom makes it a safer place for beginners. Falling off the board is part of the learning process, and in these conditions, it’s less intimidating since the bottom is soft and there are no sharp rocks or coral to worry about.
6. Mild Currents
- The current at Kuta Beach is usually moderate, not too strong, which allows beginners to practice without getting swept too far from shore. However, it’s always good to be mindful of the tide and currents, which can change throughout the day.
7. Vibrant Beach Culture
- The beach has a lively yet laid-back vibe, which is motivating for beginners who want to immerse themselves in Bali’s surf culture. The community is friendly, and there’s a good mix of locals, tourists, and fellow beginner surfers to interact with and learn from.
8. Safe for Learning
- The general environment at Kuta Beach is safe for beginners to learn and progress. Since it’s a popular spot for newcomers to surfing, there are typically lifeguards on duty and plenty of people around, providing an extra sense of security.
9. Beautiful Scenery
- In addition to the good surf conditions, Kuta Beach offers stunning views, with palm trees lining the shore and the ocean stretching out to the horizon. Surfing here can feel like a peaceful and enjoyable experience, which helps beginners feel at ease.
All in all, Kuta Beach offers the ideal combination of manageable wave conditions, safety, and accessible surf culture, making it a fantastic place for beginners to start their surfing journey.

For beginners, we recommend one-on-one lessons for safety. You can take private lessons at a cheaper price than in other countries, so get a new hobby at Orange Surf School.
Some schools offer group lessons at a cheaper price, but you will have to spend more time waiting on the water. If there is a small difference in price, We highly recommend one-on-one lessons.
